Happy New Year! We celebrated all by ourselves tonight. Well, all by ourselves in that we went to a movie with about 80 other people and then came back to our hotel room where an entire bus load of senior citizens with name tags, pizza boxes, New Year’s hats, and noisemakers had checked in earlier this afternoon.

It could be Chelsea’s dad talking here, but she believes that upon checking into a hotel, you forfeit certain rights, i.e., the right to use an air horn, New Year’s or not.

Welcome, 2013.

Jake has a saying that is usually uttered a few times while on vacation. It goes, “we sure ate well today.” Today, he said, “you know how sometimes I say, ‘we ate well today’? Well, we ate REALLY well today.”

He was right.

We started the morning with a particularly brutal workout, then headed straight to Jensen’s for breakfast with some friends. With Jensen’s comes syrup. That held us over until dinner which was had at the Cheesecake Factory–a particular favorite of ours. We shared a few appetizers and two slices of cheesecake (couldn’t finish the whole things–mostly a moral decision not to rather than being physically unable–so the leftovers are in the fridge). We got Chelsea’s beloved avocado egg rolls. Boy are those good.

We have had a nice quiet day today. We went to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts with Aysia and Jake’s mom. Chelsea got to see a few of her favorite pieces and Aysia was able to share some facts about the MIA that she learned from her art class. We are both slow and methodical in museums–we go together nicely.

Still dark up in this room.

We are still enjoying ourselves up here in cold, snowy Minnesota. It snowed a lot for us today. Luckily it was an especially sparkly snow–those are the only kinds of snows Chelsea tolerates.

We had a good time at CrossFit today and both got new personal records in the front squat. We also saw the movie Hitchcock and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves with both Dots and Milk Duds.
